The following poem is a rebelious ‘Smartlap’ about good ol’ Amsterdam as it was and ended. A ‘Smartlap’ was a flag with the lyrics of a songtext, which was held up high in the old cafes of Amsterdam to sing along with the performer. Not even 10 years ago a decade of tradition in undergroundparties in squats and other old buildings, was still alive. Though changed over the years it was the home of a lot of people in the underground movement of the city. Amsterdam as I knew it came to an end. People got older, got a ‘real’ life, but also the city changed. It got cleaned up and became beautiful but boring.
Now the rough edges are back! We are fighting for new spaces and venues…! So check out PHOENIX AM*DAM in my links section and be part of this nostalgic experience!
