Here you see the big Medusa Logo Backdrop. After Medusa was beheaded, there was another gothic party called Mordor.  I also designed this Logo.

These are really the last Medusa Flags I’ve recently photographed. These Flags decorated the walls of the venue. Remember smells take you back in time?  The smell of these flags really did take me back to the Force!

Original Medusa Logo Design 01-2002

Original Medusa Logo Design 01-2002

These were actually the first Logo Backdrops and the original Logo Design.
The Logo Design was done in a very short time. It needed to be finished quickly for the flyer.
There still is a flag with Medusa’ s head underneath her name.
The Medusa flag you see here was smaller because it was always inside.
The big one we used to hang outside above the entrance of the venue, for all to see!
The head is just a detail of that flag. I will post the full picture another time.
The original drawing of the Medusa head is on black paper.
I did that to see how I could translate the lighting of the face to a black background, like the textile I was going to use to make the backdrop.

This party flag was one of the first I did.
At the time, I was involved with a small group of people in
setting up a big monthly gothic-industrial party in Amsterdam.
It was to be called Medusa.
We wanted to decorate the venues, but the decorations had to be
easily transported and stored as well.
And also to promote the party there had to be a logo and that logo
had to be on flyers and a big backdrop on the front of the building.
A big part of that building still stands and has been renovated,
but sadly that brilliant part is gone! That’s why I’ve put the Memento Mori
Flag here first.   Actually this flag was the first try-out of a new technique I had to invent to produce these decorations. The flag is entirely hand made and hand printed.

I’ve always enjoyed working with materials which leave an irreversible result.
I’ve been working with pen and ink and colouring pencils since high school.
Later I started to use markers and fineliners.
The use of certain materials depend on what kind of end result I want to have. Which makes sense,
but I’m not that orthodox with materials and techniques.
That’s why I also invented some of  my own techniques.
With creating the Logo Backdrops and Decorative Flags, I had to.
